In 2020, MURAPLAST introduced MURAECO as its own environmental label in accordance with EN ISO 14021. The label was used for products that met defined criteria related to recyclability, recycled content, and the use of electricity from renewable sources.
Due to the new European and Croatian regulatory framework, under which sustainability labels must be based on an appropriate certification scheme or established by a public authority, MURAPLAST has decided to discontinue the use of the MURAECO visual brand.
This decision does not represent a withdrawal from our previous environmental claims. MURAPLAST continues to fully stand behind the claims made for products labelled as MURAECO, including claims regarding recycled content.
All relevant products have been renamed from MURAECO to PSV and included in the Plastica Seconda Vita – PSV certification system. This is an independently certified scheme for verifying recycled plastic content and its traceability, based on the international and European standards EN ISO 14021 and EN 15343.
For products bearing the printed MURAECO logo, customers may choose one of the following options:
- replacement of the MURAECO logo with the corresponding PSV logo, or
- complete removal of the MURAECO logo from the product.
Any costs associated with the production or modification of printing plates required as a result of this change will be covered by MURAPLAST.
For products on which the MURAECO logo is not printed, only the product name will be changed in our documentation. The composition, technical properties, and declared recycled content will remain unchanged.
Regardless of whether a customer chooses the PSV logo or a product without an environmental logo, the claim regarding recycled content will remain valid for all relevant products in accordance with their current specifications.
As the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) gradually introduces harmonised and mandatory requirements for recyclability, recycled content, conformity assessment, and packaging labelling, we believe that additional environmental labels on packaging will become increasingly unnecessary. The PSV logo will remain available as a voluntary option, subject to the customer’s decision and the applicable rules governing its use.
We would like to thank all customers and partners who have accepted and used the MURAECO label over the past years and, in doing so, supported the use of recycled materials and the development of more sustainable packaging solutions.
Customers currently using the MURAECO logo are invited to contact their MURAPLAST representative to confirm whether they wish to replace it with the PSV logo or remove it entirely. Unless otherwise agreed, the MURAECO logo will be removed from future production.
